Alpha Movement: The Manga!

The original X1 manga gave us a new look at the story behind the first MMX game. X's involvement with the Maverick Hunters is explored in more detail, additional characters are introduced, and our favorite Mavericks are each given a lot more personality than we saw in the original game. I thought I'd take a moment and give everyone a look at each of the Alpha Movement in their manga format. And be sure to check out the translated manga over at Dr. Neko's Lab!

Chill Penguin

Chill was an extremely cocky bastard. He was apparently certain that he could beat X simply because he was an A-Class Hunter and X was only B-Class. Utilizing similar moves from the game, he did seem to be mopping the floor with X in the early running. That may have contributed to his becoming overconfident later on. X then hears Marth, a friend of his from the Hunters who was also trapped in Penguin's ice, telling him that there's more to being strong than rank alone. Inspired by those words, he gets a second wind, and breaks free of his frozen bind. He battles Chill with all he's got, and appears to have him beaten. He then offers him the chance to surrender, which Penguin pretends to accept at first, then attacks X again once he lets down his guard, also threatening to kill the frozen Marth if he fights back. But while he's busy gloating, Marth breaks free and holds Penguin down. In a scene ripped right from the Raditz fight in Dragonball Z, Marth tells X to hit Chill with everything he has, knowing the blast will kill him as well. X is reluctant as first, but eventually gives in, firing a fully-charged shot that destroys Penguin and Marth.

Spark Mandrill

Mandrill was apparently in the same unit as X in the Hunters. Like Penguin, he appears to flaunt his superiority and appears to make for a hard battle against X. X shows determination against Spark, however, and shows the first instance of his weapon copy, freezing Mandrill partially with Chill's Shotgun Ice. Upon seeing this, Mandrill realizes that X is Megaman, the legendary Reploid with unlimited potential. Upon this revelation, Mandrill becomes mortified and starts groveling at X's feet begging forgiveness (he's the last of the Mavericks I would've expected to do that…). He offers to fight at X's side against Sigma. Surely, X would've accepted his offer, but then Sigma appears and shoots him dead. Because Mandrill refers to X as Megaman and recognizes him as a legend, this could be used as evidence to support the claim that X is the same character as the original Megaman.
