'Mega X' Scrutiny

Everyone's probably seen the Ruby-Spears episode Mega X by now, perhaps even read it in the epilogues section. Now I'd just like to bash it a little. Now, despite the corniness the old TV series had to it, I still enjoy watching it (heck I have both seasons on DVD). Still, it's fun to just pick it apart and examine the inconsistancies that it has with the original Megaman X game. I warn you, though, you should probably watch the episode, or read it in the Eps section, or this will make no sense to you.

* Vile pronounces “Reploid” kind of funny. It sounds like “Re-POL-ar-oid” A little Engrish, perhaps?
EDIT: Actually, I realized that in Japan, Reploids are called "Reploroids". So this episode actually tried to pronounce it closer to the Japanese terminology. Kinda interesting, actually.

* Vile is so awesome in this episode. His attitude is spot-on how he should act, his voice is as cold and emotionless as one should expect, and you’ve got to love how one eye will glow red from under his visor from time to time. Spark Mandrill, while he looks and acts just as cool, has what sounds like a bad Arnold Schwarzenegger impersonation for a voice. Luckily for us, he has only a few (very short) lines. I also liked Sigma’s voice, even though he only had a single brief line.

* Vile: “Conquering humans aligns with my prime program.”
Not a bad line in itself. But its inconstancy is the fact that Reploids aren’t supposed to have a ‘program’, per se. They’re supposed to have free will. This point is brought up again later, when Vile says to Wily that X is "programmed" to terminate him and Mandrill.

* In contrast to the Mavericks, X is completely off in comparison to the games. And I’m not just talking about the washboard abs either. His personality is totally whacked. He blows up half the power plant trying to take down Vile and Mandrill, and when Megaman warns him about this, X simply replies that he must capture Mavericks at any cost. The X from the games is not near as reckless, and would never be willing to risk massive collateral damage just to bag a couple of Mavericks.

* X is a bad speller. On his little info disk, Dr. Cain is spelled “Kain”, and Sigma is spelled “Cigma”.

* X says Dr. Cain found him in an abandoned warehouse. Very off from the games, where Cain found him in the ruins of Dr. Light’s lab.

* A couple times in this episode, it’s said that X, Vile, and Mandrill came from several hundreds of years in the future. In the games, only one century sits between the original series and the X series, as opposed to several.

* Dr. Light: “What an amazing world the future must be.”
What’s funny about this line is the fact that he says this in response to X talking about Sigma’s revolution. If I found out that there would soon be a megalomaniacal warlord who wants to exterminate the entire human race, “amazing” isn’t exactly the word I would use to describe it.

* Megaman X: "Take your choice, Vile! I can bring you back in one piece or a pile of circuits! Doesn't matter to me!"
Actually, I think it would matter very much to the X from the games. There, X hates killing reploids, and constantly thinks about whether his conflicts could've been resolved more peacefully. This X seems impartial as to whether he kills someone or not. Quite a difference, I'd say.

And here come Dark Knight's comments...

Altough I didn't view the Anime chapter, I viewed Jade's translation, and I add a few notes:

- As Jade says, X seems rather too agressive here. Originally, X always questioned himself about  killing Mavs to bring peace was really the answer. Perhaps X's attitude is much more like Zero's one.

-It seems that the chapter tried too much to show Mavericks like unhearthed, mindless, war-machines. Sure, Mavericks are evil, but also have their own decisions (being 'em evil or not), not already programmed minds.

- 'VILE: Spare me the human emotions, Wily! Just use that little toy of yours to destroy Megaman X!'
Well, Repolids have human emotions, this is even their main characteristic. He can have human emotions; but that doesn't mean that he must be a good boy (think of Hitler or Osama and you'll understand me).

- In the chapter, Mandrill easily defeated Megaman. Altough this is obvious, Spark really  doesn't completely view Megaman as a completely useless robot. This can be viewed in the manga. In it, when Spark recongnized X as Megaman, he seemed very scared.
